Oh dear… in the middle of moving cross country, setting up a new home, exploring portland, and trying to get Gemkitty back on track, Jum Jum bar has been alseep!
We have a little corner in our kitchen with all our soaping supplies, but we haven’t whipped out our little spatula yet, but I have a list of scents I am excited to try like lemon verbena, mint green tea (mmmmm) I hope to get back on track in the fall once the Kitty has launched. It’s finally going to happen mid Sept! Really!

We are starting to pack our jum jum corner in our kitchen to prepare for our move to Portland, the last few months have been crazy, but we plan to make lots of soap once we’re on the ground in pdx.
I’m still determined to get a lavender bergamot soap to work (the bergamot scent faded), and experiment with tea in soap. I think Todd wants to play with swirling color into bars!

I tried a new small 2 lb batch of a brand new recipe that adds sweet almond oil and avocado oil to our base recipe that includes coconut, olive an palm oil. I scented with a combo of lavender and bergamot orange essential oils.
I love the stories behind the oils and wanted to share:
Bergamot: The oil has been used in Italian folk medicine for many years, primarily for fever (including malaria) and worms. It is used to impart a delightful flavor and distinctive aroma to Earl Grey tea.
Lavender: Greeks and Romans perfumed their bathwater with lavender, burned lavender incense to appease their wrathful gods, and believed the scent of lavender to be soothing to untamed lions and tigers.
I will write another post once the soap is set and tested. The kitchen smells soooooo yummy right now

Yeah. That’s right, and we’ve added pictures of our latest kitchen-side soapmaking batches so you can drool and start saving up your allowance monies to buy our yum for your bum goodness.
Some of the ingredients are more expensive than others, so prices may vary, but assume they’ll be about $5.00 a bar, hand delivered and lovingly wrapped by the soapmakers themselves.

As you can see, we’ve also begun playing with natural oxides dyes. We might have been a bit heavy handed with this latest batch (teenage mintant ninja turtles anyone?), but fortunately, as warned, the color has mellowed with the curing.
We also made some slight tweaks to our straight-up olive oil, coconut oil and palm oil base, adding in some grapefruit seed extract for a bit of extra yum for you, well, you know….
Full Ingredient list: Distilled Water, Saponified Oils (Olive, Coconut, Palm), grapefruit seed oil, essential oil blend (spearmint& pepermint), titanium dioxide (color)
